Changes in guidance at the state level have provided Anne Arundel County Public Schools with the opportunity to expand the meals program in place during the school shutdown, and AACPS’ Division of Food and Nutrition Services has wasted no time in offering meals to more children.
Nine new sites will be open beginning Monday, March 23, bringing the total number of sites at which children ages 2 to 18 can get free breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a single pickup to 61.
The following sites have been added:
Children can go to any of the 38 school sites from noon to 12:30pm Monday through Friday or the 23 additional mobile meals at the specified times. Children do not have to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals to pick up meals. Adults cannot accept meals on behalf of children who are not present.
“I struggle to find the appropriate words to adequately describe the work our Food and Nutrition Services team does,” Superintendent George Arlotto said. “They are continually seeking ways to serve more children and enable those children to continue to be well-fed with nutritious and delicious meals. We have served nearly 25,000 children more than 74,200 meals in the first five days of this program, and that is just simply #AACPSAwesome.”
Please note that MacArthur Middle School is no longer a meals site. Children who used that site this week should go to Meade Middle School next week.
