At 5-0 through the season’s first several weeks, the GORC junior girls’ lacrosse team coached by Mark Mozier looks to be on the short list of contenders for the Anne Arundel County Rec and Parks Junior B league championship. The Wildcats’ lineup of Lucy Baukhages, Kara Costa, Kamryn Day, Jennifer Gabelman, Kelly George, Kimberly Koorey, Rebecca Lloyd, Kelly Koehler, Taylor Warch, Meghan Mercer, Marybeth Nemecek, Erin O’Toole, Jenna Partilla, Jordan Shughrue, Gabrielle Torain, Sydney Mose and Megan Nemecek has powered the team through its hot start, which Mozier said does not surprise him at all based on how hard the girls worked over the offseason and since the beginning of the season.
“Our success is based on our whole team working together to make each other better,” said Mozier after an 11-2 win over Severna Park on April 15. “Because of the great effort of our kids and coaches we have improved greatly. It’s starting to click now, and they’re getting better field awareness. You can see it right now, they’re still kids, but they’re serious about going to the next level. They want to be better, they want to play in high school, and really they all want to go to college to play lacrosse.”
