The Arundel wrestling team posted two convincing wins at Tuesday night’s tri-meet at Severna Park High School, topping Northeast 51-18 before downing the host Falcons, 48-31.
Against the Eagles, Arundel received key victories from Tanner Williams at 182, Nate Gainey at 106, Jack Owens at 126 and Tyler Rendina at 152. Due to an incomplete roster, Northeast gave up 36 points to Arundel by way of forfeit.
“We have a young group of guys who work hard every day to get better,” said Head Coach Jim Rubush. “We lost some key seniors last year but I feel very confident in this year’s team and am looking forward to see what this season brings.”
The night’s marquee matchup pitted Arundel against the Falcons, and the Wildcats completed the sweep in convincing fashion by defeating Severna Park 48-31. The dual meet started at 182, a matchup that Williams of Arundel won by fall to give the Wildcats a 6-0 lead. From that point on Arundel lost its lead only once, at 220 pounds, as they were forced to forfeit the empty slot. The Wildcats received victories from Gainey at 106, Nate Labile at 113, Owen at 126, Allen Johnson at 138, Terryn Hagans at 152 and Rendina, who wrestled up a class at 160 after winning his earlier match at 152.
“We want to win the county dual meet championship, and tonight I think we made a solid statement,” said Rendina.
The Wildcats are next in action after the holiday break at the second-annual Battlin’ Barons Duals on January 3 at Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School.
