On May 5, the A3 U13 Ponies girls’ soccer team completed an outstanding run through the Maryland President’s Cup, topping Montgomery Soccer on penalty kicks in the tournament’s championship game to claim the cup title.
The Ponies displayed toughness and determination in taking the crown, competing over several weekends against many of the best teams from across the state. Against Montgomery in the final, the A3 Ponies played their opponents to a 2-2 draw after regulation time and a 3-3 tie after overtime before claiming the cup championship 3-1 on kicks.
The win advanced the Ponies to the Region One Championships in New Hampshire in late May, where they competed against state-championship teams from New York, Rhode Island and Virginia and ultimately reached the tournament semifinals before falling to the Massachusetts state champions, 2-1.
The A3 U13 Ponies are Alyssa Orefice, Grace Moore, Catherine Scamurra, Madison Brimigion, Colleen Wagner, Becca Gygax, Caitlin Kelly, Hannah Cabeza, Angela Sarrach, Jennie Murphy, Rachel Seddon, Lindsay Hegewisch, Lauren Policelli, Michelle Money, Camryn Gerben and Jenna Buto.
