It has been quite a month for the A3 Soccer U15 United boys’ team.
United started May with an impressive run through the Maryland President’s Cup tournament on the Mount St. Mary’s campus in Emmitsburg, ultimately winning the tournament championship with a 2-0 victory over the Maryland Rush Swoosh 97s in the final on May 12. United did not surrender a goal in any of its President’s Cup games on its way to the title.
Seizing the Maryland President’s Cup in early May gave United the honor of representing Maryland at the Region One Championships in New Hampshire over the weekend of May 25-26. Just making it to the Region One Championships is a tremendous accomplishment, but United was not finished with its winning ways, as the A3 U15 boys went on a 5-0 run in New Hampshire to win the Region One Cup.
The victory advances the A3 United to the United States Youth Soccer Association National Championships in Disney World this coming July.
In winning the Region One Championship, United knocked off five-consecutive state champion opponents. In the preliminary rounds, United felled state-championship teams from Virginia, Pennsylvania and Vermont by a combined score of 13-3 to advance to the tournament semifinal. In the semifinal, United knocked off the Rhode Island state champions 5-0 to advance to face the champions of Massachusetts in the final. Against Massachusetts, United played incredible defense and overcame a rash of injuries to score the game’s only goal in the second half, fending off a furious comeback attempt from their opponents to take a 1-0 victory and the tournament championship.
