Kids Make A Splash During ClearShark Sprint

It may have been a rainy Saturday, but that didn’t stop more than 400 kids from running in the second annual ClearShark “Shark Sprint,” the kids’ race associated with the Across the Bay 10K.

Kids 12 and under gathered at the start line at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning to participate in the Shark Sprint, which consisted of one to three laps around a football field, depending on age. Each runner earned a finisher’s medal as they crossed the finish line.

Running wasn’t the only activity of the day. Runners and parents gathered under the kids’ tent to learn about reptiles, and even touch a boa constrictor, with Reptiles Alive. There was a chorus of “awwws” when Lizard Liz brought out a blue-tongued skink named Spice. Spice was a crowd favorite. There was also face painting by Crystalooneys Creative Arts, and in the spirit of the day, many of the participants had their faces painted like sharks. Other fun activities included a moon bounce and lots of photo opportunities with the ClearShark racecar and Clark, the ClearShark shark.

ClearShark is an enthusiastic supporter of local community events and activities in addition to the Across the Bay 10K. The staff partners with University of Maryland Athletics, sponsors several high schools in Anne Arundel County and avidly donates to local charities, including the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. In addition to sponsoring the ClearShark Shark Sprint, Miss Clark the ClearShark Shark ran the Across the Bay 10K on Sunday, and for every person Miss Clark the ClearShark Shark passed, ClearShark donated $2 to the Ulman Cancer Fund for a total of $5,000.

"The Across the Bay 10K weekend was the full embodiment of the ClearShark spirit - presenting an event like the Shark Sprint and finding a fun way to donate to a local charity!"
