Summer isn't a distant memory yet, but it is time to consider how busy you're going to be with a new schedule while still juggling your everyday schedule. Whew! I am already exhausted just thinking about it! So, you may already have a cleaning company. This is not just a luxury for homeowners anymore; it is an absolute necessity, and it ranks right up there with having an electric bill. I want to share with you some timesaving tips for your "in-between” visits. These guidelines have helped my family and have created a nice flow of consistency and expectations.

We de-clutter daily. It is so easy to let school papers and bills pile up. What do I keep and what do I toss? It’s great to have a basket system in place to prevent from losing important papers. We have a designated place for stacks of school papers, forms, bills, etc., and everyone knows where it is. We place it in the pile, and after addressing each piece, we toss the unnecessary materials into the recycling bin right away.

Many moms have expressed anguish over tossing their child’s artwork. Unfortunately, we can’t keep everything they bring home. I have placed memory boxes in the attic for each child. I take just a few things from each school year to keep. It can be tough deciding what goes, but complete organization must be dealt with consistently, or the clutter will take over your life!

Not everything belongs on the floor. “A place for everything and everything in its place” is my motto. Spend a few minutes at the end of the day returning items to their rightful place in the house. This prevents things from getting "lost." Besides, it's nice to be the first person awake in the morning, knowing that you can find your keys and enjoy the fruits of your labor from the night before. Now you can relax with that cup of coffee before the day gets busy.

How often do you get your home cleaned? If you receive service only once or twice per month, it is safe to assume that there will need to be some wet-wiping in between.

·         Wiping down kitchen counters each day with a disinfectant wipe or spray is best

·         Vacuuming and mopping at least once a week

·         Wiping off back of toilets at least every other day (Clorox wands work wonders for the bowl)

·         Dusting, when needed, with a dry microfiber cloth

·         Clean mirrors and glass doors when you see smudges on them

Cleaning your home doesn’t have to be a daunting task as long as you can follow these simple steps. Also, keeping a low-maintenance routine in between visits provides peace of mind to everyone in the home and will also keep your professional service costs down.
